Green River – Hopedale

The siting record reads like a lesson in municipal persistence. Reporting for the Gleaner in June 2021, Alison Bosma described Charlesview Road as Green River’s third Hopedale proposal. Her account said the Zoning Board of Appeals had rejected a planned Mellen Street site, which the company was then challenging in Land Court, and that selectmen had resisted a downtown-plaza idea. At the 2021 discussion, representative Constant Poholek said leadership was deciding whether to pursue Charlesview or continue with Mellen Street. He also proposed an appointment-only Mellen Street model with preorders, timed pickups, and customer caps. Those were proposals, not descriptions of today’s Hartford Avenue operation. They document a company repeatedly revising its approach while town boards, court proceedings, and public input remained part of the process.
