NETA – Brookline

The local story includes regulatory friction and a later public-safety check. On August 3, 2018, Brookline’s deputy building commissioner denied NETA’s request to add retail marijuana use because the proposal did not conform to cited zoning requirements; the letter said the company could seek relief from the Board of Appeals. That denial should not be read as the final outcome. In November 2019, Brookline Patch reported that NETA offered to shorten its hours after resident complaints. Derek Hayes, while reporting his statement that larcenies and violent crime had not increased in the area near NETA since it opened.
