The paper trail starts years before any shopper walked in. In a story published March 29, 2019, Patch reported that Paul Merian, co-owner of the formal wear shop Tuxedos by Merian, owned the recreational marijuana company Hyecorp and had bought the North Pearl Street property after Tommy Doyle's relocated to 37 Oak St. Extension, the former Bickford's Grille. Patch wrote that Merian presented the proposal at a community meeting at the Holiday Inn Express, said the site met the city's zoning requirements, and argued it would raise fewer traffic concerns than his earlier plan for a retail floor above the tuxedo shop on Main Street. Hyecorp was then conducting the traffic study required for a permit, that reporting said, crediting the Brockton Enterprise. Those were 2019 proposals, not completed facts.
