The road to opening ran through a tight local licensing landscape. iBerkshires reported that North Adams’s 2018 retail marijuana ordinance capped available licenses at two, based on its eight off-premise alcohol licenses. In coverage before the launch, the outlet said Evergreen Strategies, operating as Clear Sky Cannabis, had a special permit and a state license, with plans for the former Friendly’s Restaurant on State Road. The Times later reported that the North Adams store opened in March 2021 as Clear Sky’s first Massachusetts location. Its August coverage also named JustinCredible Cultivation, a Black-owned business in Cummington, and 253 Farmacy in Turners Falls as suppliers of some Clear Sky products.
